Most people like him for his claws, but it is the philosophy of Wolverine I related to and why I named myself after him.

On being one with nature & not letting other's opinions define your self-worth:
"I said huntin', honeybunch -- I said nothin' about killin'. It takes no skill t' kill.
What takes skill is sneakin' up close enough to a skittish doe t' touch her..."
"I could care less...You've all been misjudgin' me since the day I joined this turkey outfit."
X-Men #109 (November 1977)

On work ethics, not just on the job, but in everything you do:
“I’m the best there is at what I do. But what I do isn’t very nice.”
Wolverine #1 (June 1982)

On religion and faith:
"I believe in nothin' -- never have, never will.
What matters is what I can see, hear, smell, taste, touch --
-- tangible things, physical things. Reality. The rest is imagination."
Uncanny X-Men #165 (November 1982)

Of course these words were written by Chris Claremont.

Less than 7 years later I legally changed my name on my 25th birthday in 1989.
What gave me the nerve to redefine myself was listening to a set of tapes: Personal Power by Anthony Robbins. The tapes never motivated me to be rich or famous or even successful on any level beyond being fearless at being my own unique independent individual self.
