Best way to cook Salmon for me is in the microwave with coconut oil

This is an confusing article about cooking fish, starts off lumping microwaving as being as bad as frying. But when they get to their section on microwaving change their tune to it being as good as other forms of cooking that don't involve high heat such as frying, grilling, etc. that involve smoke.

This 2004 abstract (the article's 24th source https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15072585/) actually recommends microwaving fish to avoid the mutagenic and carcinogenic heterocyclic amines (HCAs) impact of smoke from cooking fish over open flames, frying, broiling, and baking.
"Usage of microwave ovens for cooking ... which have been found to suppress the occurrence of HCA-induced breast cancers, should be encouraged."

This abstract (source 45 https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23572621/) puts microwaving on par with "cooking" as better than canning of frying, but doesn't define what it means by "cooking" other that it doesn't include microwaving, frying or canning. :P

This abstract (found as a link in the 50th source https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/13129298/ shows microwaving is also better than frying.

"Some studies have shown that baking fish causes less loss of omega-3 fatty acids than both frying and microwaving (39, 46, 47)." none of the 3 sources mention cited to back up this statement mention microwaving.

These waves [all waves] interact with some of the molecules in food, causing them to vibrate, which heats the food.

However, microwaving is a fast and relatively low-temperature cooking method.

Because of this, it can actually preserve some nutrients better than some other cooking methods. In fact, many studies have found that microwaving fish can help prevent the loss of its healthy omega-3 fatty acids (45, 48, 54).

Nutritional value of dishes cooked using microwave ovens and using traditional cooking methods are comparable."

The article is constantly mentioning olive oil as the "healthy" oil [holding onto a bias against saturated fats? In truth the whole article seems to be anti-fat in general, even though it's touting the benefits of Omega-3s, a fat. For someone supposed to value evidence-based nutrition, she seems a bit out of touch regarding fats], but their link to "heat-stable healthy oils" (https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/healthy-cooking-oils#TOC_TITLE_HDR_3) proclaims Coconut oil as "The Winner." Heat-stable means produces less smoke, which means less carcinogens.

So me cooking my salmon filets with 2-3 Tbsp of virgin oil coconut oil covered in the microwave (microwave frying) for 3 minutes is optimal, both the fish and the oil are high in omega-3. And I consume the left over oil with the fish by breaking up the fish and mixing in other ingredients that soak it up, eating from the bowl I cooked it in. 😁 I also don't raise the filets like the packaging suggests as I don't want to wash any nutrients away. If you use water to cook (poach, steam, boil) your salmon (or any food) you lose nutrients unless you capture and consume the water/steam used, even baking loses nutrients as dry heat evaporates the moisture and nutrients away.

Oh, I was thinking about going to bed around 7-8pm (thinking I'd get up around 3am and do laundry, now maybe I'll just stay up to do that? As tempting as that might be, I think I need the sleep beforehand for the swelling reduction aspect, right now the feet are swollen and would be painful to walk on. which means I should get to bed soon.), but got caught up in researching this article/topic as I'm planning to move my diet away from smoked and processed (which all seem to be "smoked" and high sodium) meats and towards a salmon/egg based keto diet with high-fat, low-carb, high-fiber (HFLCHF) veggie sources like raw unsalted macadamia nuts & pecans, avocados, cocoa butter (white chocolate), dark chocolate cocoa powder (for its anti-oxidative properties and to satisfy my chocolate addiction-which is probably more a sugar addiction), coconut oil and other coconut products (mana (mash), milk, cream, flour), flax seed, hemp hearts, kale, asparagus, etc. Also looking into vegan cheeses and getting away from dairy to satisfy the cheese cravings, appears to involve using nutritional yeast for a cheese flavor, we'll see, ordered some to experiment with. And vegan wraps to make vegan HFLCHF "cheesy rollups" with, I'm especially curious what a dark cocoa flavored wrap cheesy rollup might taste like like as I think cheese and chocolate make a good flavor combination and might make for a good snack to chase my evening pills with. 🤔

I think both Bernie and Warren should maintain their seats in the Senate, we can't afford to risk losing either to the GOP. And they should put their full support behind a Tulsi/Yang ticket. I think Tulsi has a better chance of trouncing Trump in the debates than Yang IMHO. In tandem, the DNC really needs to pull out all the stops to take control of the Senate and destroy Moscow Mitch's control there.

Happy Phi Week! :D

Phi Week starts on the Solar Golden Ratio date where the proportion of numbers of days left in the solar year to the number of days that have passed is equal to the proportion of the days passed to the total number of days in a Solar year. The Solar year starts on the Winter Solstice (December 21st) which makes the Solar Golden Ratio date August 3rd.


Phi Week Ends on the Julian Golden Ratio date, as the Julian year starts on January 1st and the Golden ratio date is August 14th (day 226 of the year).

Unsophisticated Golden Rationalist like to use the Pi Day convention of just using numbers to mark their day (March 14 or 3.14) by denoting June 18th (6/18? How does that work again?) as their Phi Day. More dedicated Phiologist actually divide the year up into the Golden Ratio (365 x .618 = 225.57 days, which rounded up to 226 days. 226 x .618 = 139.67 or 140 so 226+140 = 366 days, the length of a Leap Year).

Phi Week falls squarely within the sign of Leo, which is ruled by our wonderful golden orb, the Sun, without which none of us would be here. Phi day is August 8th or 8/8 which represents the dual infinite proportion of the Golden Ratio (.618:1:1.618), as Phi week is 12 days long (August 3rd through August 14th), we just split the difference between the Solar and Julian Golden Ratio dates to arrive at 8/8.

May 20th is the 140th day of the year, but we already have a major holiday that time of year, there are no major holidays in August, so Phi Day fills this void.

Time to blow your mind.

1+1 = 2 if and only if both 1's are identical units.
The problem with this is that every thing, i.e. every unit, is unique.
Math is an approximation, not reality. 
All math answers are ultimately false.
Because all of math is based on the false assumption that identical units exist.

Numbers are no more real than any other fantasy the mind creates to try and make sense of the universe.
All science is based on math, therefore all science is false.
The universe cannot be measured, therefore the universe cannot be known.
We should not be surprised when an equation falls short of reality, we should expect it.

Not that we should stop trying to gain knowledge, approximations are still somewhat useful. 

We should just not get fanatical about what we "know."

Happy Phi Day Friday

Happy Phi Day! Phi is pronounced "Fi" and this year it falls on Friday, now say it out loud really fast "Phi Day! Friday!"
0.61803398875... times would be "Phi Day!"
or
1.61803398875... times would be "Phi Day! Friday! Phi Day!"
Both 0.61803398875... & 1.61803398875... are considered Phi, sometime a lower case "phi" is used to denote 0.61803398875...
You can use your calculator to determine Phi by entering √5 * .5 ± .5

August 8th or 8/8 (or ∞|∞) represents the infinite dual nature of the Phi ratio.
The Phi ratio shows up in everything that grows. It's like the cosmic code for replication.
The ratio between adjacent numbers in the fibonacci series 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89,144,...(the 12th place is also known as a gross (12x12), there is that dodeca factoring in again) approaches the Phi ratio, it's getting real close with the 11th and 12th numbers 89/144=0.61805... or 144/89=1.61797... close enough for most engineering tolerances.
What's interesting is how 5 and 12 factor into Phi because there is a Platonic Solid (the Dodecahedron) which has 12 5-sided (pentagon) faces and Phi plays an integral role in its construction. Where a side equals 1, the diagonal between corners on a face equal Phi (1.618...), connect all corners and you get a pentagram and the long side lengths of the triangle tips of the pentagram are equal to phi (0.618...).
Did you know that 1÷Phi = phi and 1÷phi = Phi? and Phi÷phi = Phi+1 (or 2.618...) and phi÷Phi = Phi - 2phi (or 0.3819...) which so happens to be the length of the short sides of the pentagram tips mentioned above, which end up making a smaller pentagon in the center of the original pentagon face.

Slowly but surely, the weight continues to drop about 1 lb. per week on the LCHF diet.

Update:And then in Oct 2015, Multiple Myeloma broke my back with a L5 compression fracture (lost about an inch in height) and I kinda stopped caring about life for while. Trying to get back on track, now my motive is to reduce the weight on my L3-L4-S1 spinal fusion.

This morning I weighed in at 275.8 lbs. I usually gain 2-4 lbs. of water weight in a day. I weigh myself every morning first thing and every night before going to bed. Sometimes more when I'm bored. Only saw 280.0 once this week during one of my mid-day weigh ins.

Almost 50 lbs. down since starting Low-carb High-Fat eating last summer, and I only just started working out at the gym again this month.

Blood results are in. Most numbers are better, but not all are in the standard range yet.

Braarudosphaera Bigelowii

Braarudosphaera bigelowii (Prymnesiophyceae) is a coastal coccolithophore with a long fossil record, extending back to the late Cretaceous (ca. 100 Ma).

Interesting, nature discovered the dodecahedron 40 million years before primates evolved, about the same time the bees emerged. Larger version of the image in the article linked above. 
Looks like it even knew about the "Golden Ratio"in its dividing of the edges of the pentagonal faces. :o)

Final weekly weigh-in of 2013

Today I weighed in 291.8 lbs. @ 34.5% bodyfat

Down 33.4 lbs. since June 21 (@ a high of 325.2 lbs. & 36.7% bodyfat

My secret: a low-carb/high-fat diet and lots of shoveling exercise.

That's about 1.24 lbs./wk, the first 8 weeks I focused on eliminating the junk food (again, I had relapsed back into eating candy and donuts the past year) though I was still eating bananas, oranges, and oatmeal with raisins, it wasn't until August 16 that I stopped eating the bananas, oranges, and oatmeal. I weighed in at 314.4 lbs. @ 36.3% bodyfat then. The weight remained stable for a couple weeks, then I cut out the cheese and ever since September I've been seeing steady weight loss.

Yesterday I saw my chiropractor, he noted my weight loss and was impressed at how little adjusting I needed (despite all the shoveling I've been doing, I've been shoveling my house, plus 3 other houses of older neighbors), he pushed my next appointment out to 7 weeks.

No, I'm not losing 30 lbs. in 30 days, but that's just crazy talk anyways, losing a pound a week is a good pace. At this rate I'll be close to my goal weight around my 50th b-day next year (will I eat cake or steak to celebrate? Probably steak, or maybe Brazilian all-you can eat meat? :o)

Happy Phi Week's Eve

Tomorrow is the first day of my own personal holiday I call Phi Week, a 12 day period that starts on August 3rd, the Golden Section of the Solstice Calendar (which starts on the Winter Solstice),  which marks .6180339 of the way through the Solar Year. It ends on August 14th, the Julian calendar’s Golden Section point. August 8 is Phi Day, the midpoint between Aug 3 and 14th. August 8th also written as 8/8 which represents the double infinite nature of Phi (1.6180339...) and it’s inverse 1/Phi (0.6180339...).

I haven’t developed any sort of rituals surrounding my holiday yet, I just make a note of it when it arrives.

It’s a geometry geek thing for me. √5 x .5 ± .5 = Phi or 1/Phi  it is also a fundamental aspect of the pentagon and the Dodecahedron.

Not a religion, just something I like to have fun with. :o)  That golden number website can be religious though, oh well.
